Artist Statement
Being immersed in the beautiful landscapes and colours of the Outer Hebrides since her childhood has shaped Kathleen’s love of interpreting her surroundings in art. She works in mixed media to explore Scottish culture, history and nature. Moving to Aberdeen in 2014 for university, she was able to continue developing her art in Wasps Artists’ Studios.
Kathleen has been shortlisted for SAA Artist of the Year, the BBC Big Painting Challenge, and in official selections for National Open Art and London Short Film Festival competitions. As part of the Iolaire commemorations in 2019, she completed a sculpture of 201 handpainted stones and driftwood, which was exhibited in 'Iolaire 100' at An Lanntair, Stornoway.
She is looking forward to expanding her art after returning home to the islands, and being able to celebrate the local landscapes and culture she grew up in.
